Costa Rica: Monkeys

I spent one week with my sisters, Carly and Erica, in Quepos, Costa Rica. I have so many pictures from Costa Rica that I have decided to release everything in a Costa Rica series. My first entry into this series is titled; “Monkeys”.

Costa Rica was full of beautiful and sometimes scary exotic wildlife. My favorite animals from the whole trip were the monkeys! I was upset that I never got to actually see a Howler Monkey, however, booooyyy could you hear them!!! The other two species of monkeys were hard to miss! They were EVERYWHERE!

The smaller golden brown monkey are Squirrel or “Titi Monkeys.” They would always pop up around our condo around 12-2PM everyday. These little guys were our first run in with wildlife in Costa Rica. The first day of our trip I was under a tree looked up, and easily saw 20 Squirrel Monkeys climbing in the tree above me. They were extremely friendly, and would just walk right past us without a care in the world.

The second monkey was also very common, it is the White Headed Capuchin. The first time we saw these guys they were walking around on the roof of the “El Avion” restaurant while we were eating dinner. My sisters and I learned these guys are actually little jerks. They kill the Squirrel Monkeys for territory, that’s why we never saw them together. When my sisters and I hiked inside Manuel Antonio National Park, the workers searched our bags to make sure we didn’t have food. However, as you can imagine, people don’t always follow rules, and some people still brought in food anyway. We saw a girl getting chased and grabbed at by a Capuchin because she was eating a granola bar. Unbelievably, the boyfriend of another girl was taking her hair and trying to hand it to the Capuchin. Long story short, respect wildlife, leave them be and appreciate from a distance.

There are plenty more photos to come! So stay tuned!

Pura Vida!
