Shooting Downhill Mountain Biking

This past winter, I decided to mix my loves of snowboarding and photography. I took my camera out into Keystone's Area 51 terrain park to shoot riders. I absolutely loved what I was able to capture. Not only was I loving the content I was capturing, it was a new type of photography for me to practice.

Fast forward to this summer, now its downhill mountain biking season! I personally do not have the guts to try downhill, but that wasn't going to stop me from shooting pictures. Thankfully, I do have a couple of friends who are big into biking and know Keystone's Bike Park fairly well. With their guidance I had a good idea of where to go on the mountain.

The biggest difference I noticed in shooting skiing vs mountain biking is the quantity of riders. In the winter I would easily see 15-20 riders for a given feature in a very short time span. Now for the summer it's roughly 15-20 riders an hour. This forces me to have my settings on point! From my first day out shooting the sport I learned a great amount. I was only happy with a couple of shots from my first day, but I can't wait to get back out there to shoot again!
